2019, the independent energy of RP Mbaula caught my attention after the release of Nitai Eembe Koko music video, created in partner with UK organization anti-FGM campaign. Shortly thereafter, a colleague of RP Mbaula approached VOM eager to introduce more of RP's work to a label with shared sensibilities.

RP Mbaula, styling himself as a Maasai Rapper, is largely influenced by the work of the late Mr Ebbo, Professor Jay and Mr II. His Bongo Flava music, combining Maa and Swahili, is widely received and loved by many in Tanzania due to strong messages about life, society and challenges across Maasailand.
Mbaula was born and raised at Ngereyani Village at the foot of Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania by his father, a Maasai businessman and his mother, a nomadic pastoralist woman.
