Mama Africa New Bongo Flava Single

Breaking into the music world with Mama Africa, Attu Medicine's Bongo Flava single drops a smooth tune

A mix of English and Swahili lyrics glide into a colorful tour and clarity of identity for both the youthful singer and the story she tells. Attu's ladylike and gentle voice resonates with truthful sound and sincere heart. Harmonized with male counterpart, Miki, they seem to somehow awaken serene sonic beauty backed with chill beats and that exceptional easy savannah sound.

Attupele Geofrey was born in Iringa Tanzania in 1991 and started singing as a young girl to help cope with a challenging night blindness disability.

“Family and friends would say my voice healed them, made them feel good, it was their medicine,” comments Attu.

With this encouragement, she kept singing, and as a young adult adopted Attu Medicine as her stage name. Her path complicated when she became a young single mother. Despite the pressures, she believes that her vocal talents could be the bridge to better opportunities so she works her craft and will not give up on her aspirations.

Jeremy Tum, caught wind of Attu and pitched development. Struck by Attu’s determination and vocal prowess, a collaboration transpired in 2022 featuring male vocalist Zungu Pori and Attu Medicine for the recording of Bongo Flava song, Karibu Tanzania, Attu’s introduction to the industry.

Now with her first single, Mama Africa, Attu doesn’t shy away from her vulnerabilities, the gifted singer embraces her talents and demonstrates that she is a force to reckon with in the East African music scene. Mama Africa was produced and recorded by Sign Beatz at Blackdot studios in Dar Es Salaam Tanzania, featured male vocals by Miki, album art by Jessey Jansen.

Inspiration Behind the Album Art

Mama Africa conjures up visuals of bright color, bold patterns, and effortless cool style, but many of the truths we cling to depend greatly on our own point of view. As I try to imagine how Attu perceives the world around her, my design unites two profiles, the famed musician in the publics eye and the real visually impaired person when off stage. A courageous young woman, who will no doubt defeat the pressures of industry double standards and vanity with courage and determination. The format is inspired by the nostalgic 12" vinyl record covers, paying homage to keeping the music (the story) alive.
